What better way to kick off August than to make plans for having fun during the last full month of summer?! Our list of things to do in San Diego in August is packed with ideas to help you do just that.

For those looking to get out and about, you can enjoy an outdoor movie night at the La Jolla Playhouse or hit up some of San Diego's top beaches. Surfing lessons and kayaking excursions are always a great way to take in the city views while getting active. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, why not try your hand at paddle boarding




August 12

Attendees will have the opportunity to sample unlimited sips from all 14 members of the SIP San Diego non-profit in one place, as well as enjoy light bites from the newly opened California Poppy and live music in the dome venue at Escondido City Hall.



August 11-13

Experience cosmic wonders at Julian StarFest 2023! Join astronomy enthusiasts for telescope views, workshops, and expert talks. All are welcome to this premier stargazing event.



Encinitas Cruise Nights

August 17th

Get ready for the rocking Encinitas Classic Car Nights in Downtown Encinitas! On the third Thursday of summer months, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, you can see hot rods, classic cars, and more along S. Coast Highway 101. The event is free and open to the public, with no fees for displaying or viewing cars. Enjoy live music and explore the historic downtown with its great restaurants and shops. Limited parking, so come early for the best spots. It's a night you won't want to miss!




August 19

Ladies grab your hats and gents pull out your bow ties and come get Uncorked at Del Mar. Sample from over 100 wines and bubblies from around the globe, plus enjoy top local food trucks and music all while trackside watching the races from the Stretch Run.



August 27

This free community event along North Coast Highway 101 celebrates fine art with live demos, music, dancers, a kids’ zone, makers market, beer garden, and more. Don’t miss this creative and lively gathering in Leucadia!



San Diego International Kids Film Festival


August 25th-27th The San Diego International Kid's Film Festival combines entertainment and education. It showcases films from around the world, giving young filmmakers a chance to connect with an international audience. The festival is back in Carlsbad and presents high-quality films for children and families. The festival includes screenings, a market for family films, an award ceremony, and panel discussions.
